Program Assistant (Marketing & Communications) – 15 Hours/Week, 3-month term with the possibility of renewal

Our team is growing! We’re looking for a Program Assistant to focus on Marketing and Communications tasks!

Reporting to: Director of Marketing & Communications

Hours & Salary: 15 hours per week at $25.00 per hour, less applicable statutory deductions and withholdings, in accordance with the Nova Scotia Labour Standards Code. Note that this position is paid monthly on the 27th of the month unless the 27th falls on a weekend, in which case the payday is the preceding workday.

Location: Remote, must be located in Canada

Our efforts have catapulted us to the forefront, being recognized in the top 5 ocean accelerators/incubators in North America and top 10 globally in the Blue Economy sector according to Startup Genome’s Report. Launched in 2020, we’ve quickly become a global contender, not only speeding up market access for Canadian startups but also attracting international ventures.

Since our inception in 2020, we’ve supported more than 130 teams, distributed more than $3-million in funding and created various programs to fill in ecosystem gaps to best support early-stage founders, typically with a TRL of four and below. Ocean Startup Challenge winners have collectively raised over $19 million in investment and have leveraged over $33 million in non-dilutive funding to grow their companies. 

Position Summary: We are seeking a part-time Marketing Assistant to support our marketing efforts. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for social media management, content creation, website maintenance, and graphic design. If you are organized, detail-oriented, and have a flair for creativity, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

Social Media Management:
-Develop and schedule engaging posts for our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.).
– Monitor and respond to comments and messages promptly.
– Assist in the development of social media packages for partners for upcoming programming and events
– Analyze social media metrics and report on the performance of campaigns.

Content Creation:

– Write and edit compelling content for blog posts, newsletters, press releases, and email campaigns.
– Collaborate with the team to generate new ideas for content.


Website Maintenance/Updating:
– Regularly update content on our WordPress website.
– Ensure the website is user-friendly and up-to-date with the latest information.
– The ability to troubleshoot website issues as they arise is considered an asset


Graphic Design: – Create eye-catching graphics and visuals using Canva for social media, website, and other marketing materials.
– Ensure all designs align with our brand identity and messaging.


Program Development and Client Relations:
– Assist in the development of programs and initiatives.
– Support client relations efforts by providing exceptional customer service and maintaining positive relationships.
– Collect metrics via phone calls with program alumni


Additional Responsibilities:
– Assist with other marketing tasks as needed.
– Support the team with administrative tasks and project coordination.


Qualifications:
– Proven experience in social media management and content creation.
– Proficiency in WordPress for website maintenance and updates.
– Strong graphic design skills, with experience using Canva.
– Training in journalism, communications, or a related field.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
– Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
– Strong understanding of marketing principles and strategies.
– Bilingual (French) is considered an asset.
– Experience working with startups or in the innovation ecosystem is considered an asset


Other Requirements:
– Reliable internet connection and computer, and access to a phone to make calls in Canada.
– High computer proficiency (experience with GSuite, Google Drive, Airtable, and Zoom preferred)
– Initiative to develop proficiency with program tools when not familiar, with minimal training.
