Ocean Startup Project unveils recipients of the
inaugural Ocean Challenge: Boost funding

The Ocean Startup Project is excited to announce the selection of twelve exceptional startups as the first recipients of the Ocean Challenge: Boost fund. This initiative is a pivotal element of our effort to spur the growth of sustainable ocean technology in Canada. Eligibility for this exclusive follow-on funding was extended to startups that are alumni of the Ocean Startup Project’s Challenges and Lab2Market Oceans teams, underscoring our commitment to ongoing support and development within our innovative community.

These startups received various funding amounts in increments of up to $5,000 each to assist in reaching near-term milestones, which are critical for their continued growth and the advancement of their projects. The Ocean Challenge: Boost fund represents a significant step forward in our mission to foster innovation, support groundbreaking solutions, and promote the sustainability of our oceans through technology.

Celebrating the Innovators

These startups have demonstrated remarkable potential and commitment to addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing our oceans today. We are proud to introduce the recipients of the Ocean Challenge: Boost funding:
  • – PhyCo Technologies Inc.: Developing a natural bio-based plastic derived from seaweed.
  • – Miha Biotech: Developing a seaweed-based wound dressing solution that improves the healing process and reduces subsequent scarring.
  • – Ocean AID: Harnessing the power of sonar with AI to create an Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) system for detecting underwater objects in real-time.
  • – Integrative Nanotech: Developing the next generation of sensing by leveraging novel scalable nanomaterials.
  • – Rising Tide BioAcoustics Inc.: Utilizing proprietary and unique underwater acoustic speakers for the development of noise cancellation systems for ships, and solutions for reducing fish kill from industrial and commercial fishing activities.
  • – Technologies de pêche Aquarius: Developing a technology to avoid trawler seabed scraping and reduce fuel consumption in the fishery industry.
  • – qualiTEAS: Developing an AI-powered corrosion inspection and management solution for ocean industries.
  • – Blue Lion Labs: Developing a system to automatically identify and count different types of algae in your water through the power of Artificial Intelligence and unique data collection.
  • – nditive3D Inc.: Developing a digital twin-driven system for real-time monitoring of the hazardous gasses in marine operations.
  • – ASL Energy (Composite Mats Canada Inc): Delivering access solutions through the use of cutting-edge composite matting products.
  • – BioLabMate: Replacing single-use plastic waste from research labs and medical facilities, using ocean-based materials for a greener future.
  • – IceCube: Developing a shipborne Data Acquisition system for Arctic autonomous shipping.
